Planning your campaign

The following are some questions to consider when planning your campaign:

  1. What is your organisation/club trying to achieve_ (aims and objectives_)

  2. How does the Thanks Campaign contribute to your organisations corporate goals and strategies_

  3. Who are your clients or target markets_

  4. Who are your key stakeholders (include driving and restraining stakeholders)

  5. How are you going to engage the stakeholders_

  6. What is the desired outcome of your Thanks Coach/Thanks Official campaign_ (How do you know you are successful_)

  7. Who will be the driver of the campaign at national and state level_ Who has responsibility for implementation_

  8. What is the timetable for implementation_ (Including evaluation)

  9. What is your budget/resources_ (Materials; administration)

  10. What are some activities you could use in your sport to promote the Thanks Campaign_

  11. What strategies will you include to ensure continuous recognition of coaches, officials and sport administrators in your organisation_

Distribute recognition materials to your network.
Campaign posters, stickers, thank you cards, certificates, nomination forms, folders etc

Provide clubs and associations with a campaign promotional kit – which can contain promotional materials, why and how to recognise coaches, officials and sport administrators, sample recognition certificates, etc

Nominate coaches, officials and sport administrators for recognition – anyone can nominate a coach/official to be recognised. The nomination form can include a checklist for nominee to complete why his/her coach/official should be recognised.

Present a recognition kit – to present to coaches/officials who have been nominated in the recognition campaign. The recognition kit can contain:

  • a certificate
  • congratulatory letter from the campaign organisers OR from a high profile coach, official or sport administrator of the specific sport
  • a copy of the nomination form so that the nominated coach/official is aware of what they have done well that deserve recognition
  • information on upcoming coaching/officiating/sport administration courses, clinics and update seminars
  • discount vouchers on coaching/officiating/sport administration resources and merchandise

Launch the campaign — The launch may feature high profile coaches/officials, players, children /p>

Promote the campaign by using the media

Recognition Activities

Sporting clubs and organisations should recognise the contribution of their coaches, officials and sport administrators. Here are just a few ways of recognising their efforts:

  • Listen to ideas and comcerns from your coaches, officials and sport administrators – provide a regular forum for their input

  • Reinforce the role of coaches, officials and sport administrators through allocation of space in the club newsletter

  • Recognise any outstanding effort in local newspapers & magazines

  • Offer opportunity for coaches, officials and sport administrators to contribute to club newsletter

  • Provide opportunities for coach and official recognition by team participants

  • Try to cover any expenses the coach, official or sport administrator might incur

  • Provide an environment where your coaches, officials and sport administrators feel needed, useful and welcome within the club

  • Offer certificates, plaques, etc for recognition of effort

  • Nominate your coaches, officials and sport administrators for local awards

  • Be immediate and sincere in recognition of outstanding effort

  • Encourage coaches/officials to become NCAS/NOAS accredited – the club could even cover the cost for the course!

  • Ensure your club or association has a coaching/officiating director, coaching/officiating coordinator or chairperson

  • Nominate your coach and officials for a Recognition award

  • Ensure there are financial or other resources provided to coaches, officials and sport administrators

  • Develop a recruitment and development plan for new coaches, officials and sport administrators

  • Provide a mentor program between experienced and new coaches or officials

  • Ensure coaches, officials and sport administrators are represented at all levels on committees

  • Convene coaches, officials and sport administrators meetings and invite guest speakers and make it social

  • Allocate a part of your budget to coaching, officiating and administration

  • Make it obvious that you value and provide incentives for your coaches, officials and sport administrators
