RPL is based on awareness that people may learn in many different ways throughout their lifetime - through work experience and life experiences as well as through education and training. RPL takes into account a person's skills and experiences, no matter where these were learnt, to enable people to get credit in a course of study.

You can apply for RPL if you can provide evidence that your prior learning and experience has made you competent in the learning outcomes for a particular training course.

For information, contact your national sporting organisation.

NCAS-Updating

Coaches registered with National Coaching Accreditation Scheme are registered for a four year period. The expiry date of registration is shown on NCAS ID Card.

Coaches are required to continue their education during this period and accrue updating points by attending appropriate coach education activities. Coaches are required to update their registration to:

  • ensure they stay abreast of rule changes in their sport
  • ensure they are aware of the most up to date techniques and coaching methods
  • ensure that the coaching environment is safe for all participants and reduces the likelihood of coaches becoming involved in legal actions
  • ensure that sport and the ASC have an up to date register of active coaches

Updating policy and fees

Recording your updating activities

What happens if you don't update_

Update policies and fees

The Australian Sports Commission’s NCAS updating policy has been developed in association with the National Sporting Organisations (NSOs). It requires registered coaches to participate in a variety of continuing education activities. Each sport has developed its own sports-specific updating policy, which outlines activities that can be used for updating purposes and the procedures to be followed to update your registration. For more information, please contact your National or State Coaching Director or the National Sporting Organisation.. An updating fee is payable to your sport.

Recording Updating Activities

You should make use of the NCAS (or sport specific) Update Log Book to record all updating activities. Take this book with you to any updating activity and have it signed by the Course Coordinator. Coaches receive a copy of the Updating Log Book as part of their coach pack on NCAS registration. Alternatively you can record your updating activities yourself, but you must ensure that all activities are signed by the Course Coordinator.

Update Log Books and documentation should be sent directly to your sport and not returned to the Australian Sports Commission. Processing of your updated registration is done only after receipt of registration forms and fees from your sports office.

What Happens If You Don’t Update

If you do not complete the updating requirements as specified by your National Sporting Organisation, your name will be removed from the NCAS current register and you will no longer be recognised as an NCAS coach.

To re-enter the NCAS you will be required to complete appropriate updating activities as specified by your sport. In some cases coaches are required to re-do the appropriate NCAS level course.

Special leave considerations (such as maternity leave, leave related to employment, etc) are available and should be discussed with your National Coaching Director.
